Abstract

In her reflections on totalitarianism, Hannah Arendt draws attention to the means that produce the destruction of the common world, in particular, the massive and strategic use of ideology, the erasure of memory, and the phenomenon she calls “thoughtlessness”. The aim of this article is to use this last phenomenon as a starting point to understand how these mechanisms for destroying the world are intrinsically linked, operating together and constantly threatening the preservation of democratic regimes.
